Pensées

I had a really nice little potter around my courtyard today and put my first lot of pansies in. I love pansies. I love their smell, their colours, the fact they last from October to May, that they don't freeze, that in French their name means "thoughts". I plan to go overboard on the whole pansy front this year. And I also plan to plant some bulbs on time. And to generally look after my outdoor space which has been a bit neglected since we got back from holidays.

Happy Days

You wouldn't think so, looking at this guy's face (methinks he knew what was coming)...
we've "bean" having some good times round our way (yup broke out the paddling pool today).

Not been doing much. Having fun with the family. My boyfriend is learning how to draw and so wants me to sit for him all the time (after 5pm I just fall asleep if I do though). My son is rarely human but has an impressive repertoire of animals he'd rather be (cat, dog, snail, crab, crocodile, mountain goat, parrot, monkey, cow, dinosaur, horse, bear... shall I go on - total entertainment) and my daughter has discovered card games and, more importantly, that it's more fun to play when you don't cheat! So I bought her her first pack of grown-up cards (couldn't find any in the house although I find this hard to believe) and we have been playing quite a bit. When I was a student (before the internet was invented I believe ;-) ) I used to play for hours and hours especially with a particular friend (hello there friend are you reading?) and I found to my amazement that most of the games we played actually exist!!! It's official "sh*thead" is a real game of cards!!! Wow. Don't think I'll teach that one to her yet - even though we did teach it to a French student who ended up calling it chickenhead which would be acceptable. But I have taught her rummy and scopa and another one (the one where the person left with the black jack loses) and the site I linked to above is a real treasure trove of card games. Good times ahead methinks.

Otherwise been planting: I put some mint in an old zinc container I found in the street the other day and I really like the result. I put my potatoes in (a bit late, but as they say...) and really, you see, it is much better when I blog with something to say n'est-ce pas?

The sun came out

The sun came out at last today. So I dug in some horsesh*t, planted out some cucumbers and tomatoes and marigolds and weeded the lettuces, peas, beans and lucky dip patch of my daughter. We don't have a lot of space and so we won't have a lot of veg but we should have just enough to get that proud feel good feeling now and again.
This is my kids' indoor swimming pool in their "Indian Kingdom". They would have preferred to carry on splashing rather than eat their tea. That is where I come in of course as guardian of the full tummies. And this was their bedtime story. I love this book. And couldn't agree more with the above sentiment (oat milk though, oat milk).

Salad and who wants it!

One of the nice things about living in a house is er being outside it!! Ahh a little outdoor patch to grow your own lettuce in.

Popular stuff this lettuce.

But I got there first! This is our tea tonight. Left over pasta, fresh shitake mushrooms, marinated peppers, roasted pine nuts, raisins, shallots and freshly picked lettuce. Yum!

Mais nous sommes plus rapides!!
